The Charger and the Miller

An aging charger was reassigned to work at a mill instead of going to fight in wars. As he labored grinding grain rather than engaging in battle, he lamented his changed circumstances. He recalled his former life, saying,"Ah! Miller, I used to be on campaign, but I was fitted with a collar from head to tail, and I was led by a groom. Now I cannot understand why I preferred the mill over the battlefield." The Miller responded kindly,"Hold your complaints about the past, for it is the common fate of humans to face the constant ebb and flow of fortune."
