The saying "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" means that if you do not try, you will not get anything new or good. It tells us to be brave and to try new things. Sometimes, people are afraid of failing or being rejected. But if they do not try, they will not succeed.
This saying has been used in English for a long time. It is from the idea that taking risks can bring rewards. People believe that brave actions can bring success.
Here are two simple stories to understand this saying:
First, a young woman wants a new job. She is nervous because she worries she is not good enough. But she decides to try. She sends her application and goes to the interview. She gets the job. Her decision to try brought her happiness.
Second, a man wants to put his savings into a new business. He is not sure if it will work. After thinking, he decides to do it. His business becomes successful and he makes good money. If he had not taken the risk, he would not have had this success.
These stories show that taking risks can help us get good things. The saying tells us that if we do not take chances, we might miss opportunities and success.
