The Fox and the Grapes
Adapted · A2 · Graded story · 1:08 · A2 · AI-generated learning content
A very hungry fox, an animal like a small dog, was walking beside a garden. She saw some grapes, small round fruit, growing on a plant above her head. They were black and ready to eat.
The fox had been looking for food for a long time. She thought the grapes would make a good meal.
She stood on her back legs, but the fruit was too high. Then she jumped and opened her mouth. She could not get any grapes.
She stepped back and ran towards the plant before jumping again. This time she went a little higher, but she still could not reach them.
The fox tried from the other side. She looked for some lower grapes and jumped several more times. But she could not get any fruit.
At last, her legs felt weak. She was tired and still hungry. She felt sad, but she did not want to say that she had failed.
She turned away. She said the grapes were not ready to eat and would not taste sweet. Then she walked away, leaving the fruit behind.
It is easy to say we do not want something when we cannot get it.
