The Cat with Three Names

Every evening, a gray cat came to Ana's flat. Ana was new to the city and lived alone. She called the cat Pepper and bought a blue bowl for him. For two weeks, he ate his dinner there every evening.

Then one evening, Ana heard a young man call from a flat across from hers."Biscuit! Dinner time!" he said. And Pepper walked to him.

The next morning, Ana met the man. His name was Leo."I think we are both giving food to the same cat," she said. Leo laughed."That's why he is so fat!"

They made a plan. Ana would give the cat food on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Leo would give him food on the other days. They wrote the plan on a piece of paper and put it on the cat's neck.

Three days later, the cat came back with a different paper. It said:"Thank you for loving Mr. Button. He lives with me on the first floor, but he likes to visit. Please do not give him so much food. His doctor says he is too heavy. Would you like to come for tea on Sunday? Mrs. Dobrowska, Apartment 1B."

Ana and Leo read it together and laughed and laughed. On Sunday, they took a cake to her flat. Mr. Button was asleep by the window.

Now the three neighbors have tea every Sunday. The cat still visits Ana, but the blue bowl stays empty. Ana does not mind. She has found more than a cat.
