The Cat and the Cock

A cat caught a cock and began to think how he might find a reasonable excuse to eat him. He accused the cock of troubling people by crowing at night and keeping them from sleeping.

The cock defended himself by saying he did this for the benefit of men, so they would rise in time for their labours. The cat replied that, even if the cock offered plausible apologies, he would not stay supperless, and he made a meal of him.
